Love, Marriage, & Las Vegas MDS Layout

So Charlie and I took a little vacation to celebrate our one year anniversary {really can’t believe it, he’s blessed me beyond measure.. but I suppose that’s another post!} this past weekend, Wednesday night until Sunday late, and things are finally starting to get back to normal. It has been a long week to say the least. We both have been completely exhausted from going-going-going while on our trip, but it was SO worth it! We visited Las Vegas, Nevada, and had THE BEST time! There were a few things we missed seeing, so we’d like to go back someday, but our trip was jam packed with goodness! We visited the fabulous casinos, saw Vegas shows, drove out to the Hoover Dam, and enjoyed an amazing helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. It was a truly remarkable trip & place to visit. I definitely recommend it for anyone. Even if you have kids, there is something for everyone.
Anyway, like I said, things are starting to get back to normal, the exhaustion is finally wearing off, and I’ve finally been able to do a little creating. I actually was able to do a little creating on the plane ride home with a vacation photo & the Rhonna Designs App. {Seriously, if you don’t have that app yet, you NEED it!} I prettied up an already gorgeous pic of Lovely & I at the Skywalk Grand Canyon on our anniversary, April 20th {magical place to spend such a wonderful day, as well as Easter!}. This is what I did with one of the pictures.

I loved how the gold looked with the colors of the canyon, and, of course, black pairs perfect with gold! I used tons of elements within the Rhonna Designs App. She has TONS of things that work perfectly for special occasions and the everyday! So, I knew I wanted to scrapbook this creation & not just the photo. I came across this MDS page by Heather Summers, and knew I had to use it for inspiration. I found the page on Heather & Kimberly Van Diepen's Facebook MDS Challenge Group. You should join, if you haven't! You'll find lots of tips, inspiration, and help there.

I did change things up a bit, as I didn’t want the gold on my Rhonna Designs creation to clash or overlap with the gold of the glimmer kit. I simply used a Whisper White top piece, and recolored the Gold Heart DSP from the Glimmer Kit to Basic Black. Did you know you can recolor DSP in MDS?! It’s so simple. Here are a few easy steps to recolor your favorite DSP to the color you wish.
  1. Select your DSP from the Background mode.
  2. Select "Add as Layer Page" (this step is the most important, if you add it as a background you can’t recolor it)
  3. Once your DSP is added to your page, select it, and in the Photo Mode select "Recolor"
  4. Choose your favorite color, and hit ok
  5. Viola!
You can also do the same with your photos! Hmm, I need to try that soon! Getting back to Heather’s layout, I also changed a few other things as well. I needed a double page spread for our trip, so I added another page to the left side. I used a collage of photos from the Simply Life Photo Templates to showcase a few highlights of our vacation.

I let the main photo do the most “talking” for the page, but added a small title to a corner of each page, so if you read it, it says “Marriage & Love.” My Rhonna Designs pic says “Love & Marriage” so everything ties together well. My gold hearts & banner were filled with the gold glitter background from the app, so the gold had a cohesive look. I’m also thinking about adding a swirl of Gold Baker’s Twine behind the “& love” heart. What do you think?

Obviously, I’m still on the gold kick! I hope I’ve brought you to the “gold side” by now! See you back SOON for some traditional scrapbook layouts & cards. Have a great weekend! OH! Don't forget FREE SHIPPING ends today!!!
