Creating Zebra Stripes

Hello! I'm so excited to see this day here! Charlie & I are jetting off to Las Vegas in the morning, and I am so looking forward to our trip. We have lots of awesome things planned that we are excited about, specifically seeing the Grand Canyon! We will be there on Sunday, Easter, and I can't even imagine how beautiful it will be, and such a wonderful place to bask in God's glory on such a sacred day! I wanted to share a project before we set off on our adventure. In fact, this card was created by a little crafting adventure of my own! Awhile back a friend & I were creating a card together, and on accident came up with a way to create zebra stripes with Versamark! I squealed when we did it, and have been dying to do it again and use the Zoo Review Stamp Set. I finally got around to it, and oh they turned out great! I have two versions of this card to share, one in white & one in gold. I just know you are going to love them both!

I started with a traditional black & white version accented in Bermuda Bay & Melon Mambo. These colors are SO fun, and just perfect for a teenager. I used the Starburst Framelits as the mat for my zebra from the Zoo Review set stamped on Whisper White with Black Stazon, and the Starburst again for a mat for the Vintage Faceted Button. I accented my Bermuda Bay flag with White Baker's Twine.

Here is a closer look at the stripes. These are SO easy to create with the Versamark Pad, embossing powder, and the Heat Tool. I've created a little video tutorial you can see below. This is my first ever video tute, so bear with me as I gain practice. :) I hope it helps you recreate the stripes for yourself though.

If you can't tell from the video, you simply take the edge of your Versamark pad, and wipe it across your cardstock (or even DSP). There is no rhyme or reason to the stripes, just like in nature, so you just randomly wipe your ink across the page. After that, you'll cover your stripes in the embossing powder {color of your choice}, and heat emboss. SO SIMPLE yet GORGEOUS!

Being that I'm still smitten over black & gold, I created a more sophisticated version of the card accenting in Crisp Cantaloupe. The large Starburst on this card is cut with the Gold Foil Sheets with a black zebra stamped on Very Vanilla layered on top. I accented the flag in Gold Baker's Twine, and added a Crisp Cantaloupe In Color Boutique Button for an accent over the Basic Black Starburst.

I am loving the Gold Stampin' Emboss Powder. It really shines & pops against the black! I love all the gold goodies from the Spring Cattie. That work so well with Crisp Cantaloupe too! I thoroughly enjoyed creating these cards, and I hope they inspire you to take a little crafting adventure of your own! Happy Stampin', and see you back soon!
