Making a House a Home Series: Kitchen & Dining Area

Good afternoon & happy Friday to you! I'm so glad the end of the week is here. I'm looking forward to the weekend. I don't have any plans, but to stay home. And I am BEYOND excited about that! Do you ever feel that way? Home is without a doubt my favorite place to be, but it seems like I don't get to spend nearly enough time there, especially on the weekends. I think what makes home so wonderful for me, aside from who I share it with, is making it a place that reflects my family and our styles, tastes, and needs. One of our favorite spaces in our home is the kitchen & dining area. It reflects both of us so well with bright colors, touches of modern & vintage, and a kitchen space designed by us both.

We finished our actual kitchen a little over a year ago, but have just recently took the time to decorate it. We had an old table and hutch, switched it to new, collected decor pieces, and choose & completed back splash (I even helped with laying that!).  For our decor, our inspiration was our engagement photos with a bright yellow airplane and the fun dishes we selected for our registry.

Bed Bath & Beyond
Charlie loves bright colors, and I love the mix of the bright with muted and cool colors like khaki & turquoise blue. These dishes were perfect for us, and paired with our engagement photos the space came together perfectly!

Here you can get a better look at our engagement photographs and how well they work with our dinnerware. You probably remember these square IKEA frames from here. We kept them around, but switched out the black and white ones to black and white photos from our wedding. I printed the photos using a 12x12 scrapbook layout in My Digital Studio, so PERFECT for this project. We carried out the squares with the dining table we selected and shelves we made into a buffet like piece (bottom right & see more below).

Charlie enjoys cooking and I enjoy baking so it is important for us both to enjoy this space, and we most definitely do!
