One Little Word

I can't believe it's already 2013! We spent a quiet evening with my parents, brothers, aunt, and her man :) on New Year's Eve, and we were excited to see 2013 roll in! 2012 was a great year, and really flew by so fast! Even though 2012 was a wonderful year, I am looking forward to 2013 even more & I know it will be EVEN better! Lots of exciting things will be happening! We will finish projects around the house, plan vacations, I'll graduate college, and the biggest being, we will FINALLY say I do! We are so looking forward to seeing the product of all of our planning & hard work, but more than that we are looking forward to being husband & wife. We can't wait to start our lives together as husband & wife, and continue our journey in life!
Speaking of journeys, I am starting a new journey with myself. I came across the concept of having a One Little Word from @whippycake & @houseofsmiths on Instagram. I did more reading on the Whippy Cake Blog, and found there is an online seminar to help you follow and commit to your word throughout the year. The class is by Ali Edwards, and offered through Big Picture Classes. It is $36, very inexpensive, and you are given prompts and printables each month to help you stay on track throughout the year. The ultimate goal in the class, besides bettering and learning about yourself by committing to your word, is to create an album with your "findings" and goals throughout the year. I discovered the One Little Word concept and workshop only a couple of days ago, and immediately decided it was something I wanted to do. It didn't take me long to find a word, or for a word to "find" me.

I want to enrich the world around me, my own life, the lives of those around me, my mind, my body, my home, and more.

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, even before I found the OLW idea, and I've wondered what have I really done to enrich my own life & the lives of those around me. Have I truly enriched the lives of  lovely, my parents, brothers, family, and friends? After much deep thought, and denial, I determined, I really haven't.

But have I contributed to their growth?

In the last year or so, I've been much of a homebody. It hasn't been because I don't want to spend time with the ones I love, it's been because I've been so busy and tired. Any down time I get, I spend at home. I have to learn to make time for others, and enrich my life and theirs with quality time & the love we share.

So, one of the ways I will use my OLW in my life this year is to truly enrich the lives of those around me. I will do better to visit with friends more, spend time with my family, and make better use of the time Charlie & I have. I want to empower them, encourage them, support them in every way, and help them be the best they can be, in whatever that is.

Another facet I want to continue to focus on is enriching my life with good foods and fun physical activity. I tried early in 2012 to follow a strict diet, and I quickly learned it just wasn't something I could do at the time. I'm not certain it is still something I could do now, but I want to work on changing my attitude about food. Though, for me, it's best to indulge now & then, I have to learn it is just that, an indulgence, not a need. I need to refocus my ideas about food, and remember food is meant to enrich my body, fuel it, make it better, not bad. I'll also continue my Camp Gladiator journey. I began late last year, and at the end of the year decided to continue on. I'll begin again next week, and will work on taking it more seriously and as an enrichment to my body & mind.

I have to remember that though I am not in the shape I used to be and not in the shape of those around me at Camp Gladiator, I am doing this for ME, and no one else. I am not doing this to lose weight or look a certain way, I am ultimately committing to this to be the best me I can be! With that mindset (rather than the I have to lose a gazillion pounds by tomorrow attitude), I know I will succeed.

Though I have many other factors I've established to enrich my life this year, I'll just share one more.

In the last 6 months, I have thought a lot about and talk a lot with others about what makes me truly happy. For me, that is creating, sharing what I create, and inspiring others to create as well. For me, creating, inspiring & enriching go hand in hand. I plan to take a bit of time each week to just create, for me, and, inevitably, for others by sharing what I create here. Yes, I've been doing that a lot here lately, and my goal is to continue to do so, thus to enrich my life even more. I'll dabble with new ways of creating and sharing that creativity as well. I am challenging myself to enrich my mind and others by focusing more on sharing (and selling) Stampin' Up! I am truly passionate about Stampin' Up! and creating with Stampin' Up!, and want to spark that passion in others as well. This particular facet of my OLW is REALLY BIG, and I could probably go on all day about it. But I'll leave it at that, and continue working out where I want to go with it on my own. I do have all year to figure it out!

If you don't have a One Little Word, and are like me, don't have a New Year's Resolution, nor want one, I encourage you to check into the concept, and even if you don't participate in the online class to have a OLW and commit your new year to it! The word is for you and you only, and will encourage you to lead into and continue the year 2013 in a great way!

My best advice to you as far as MDS goes is to just play! I pretty much taught myself everything!
